homemade playdough

Today Sammi and I made homemade playdough! It was a great at-home project and the playdough turned out great! Super fun and super inexpensive too! I'll put the recipe at the end of the post!

We measured out all of the ingredients and put them in a pot...

Lots of flour...

Must have cream of tarter (find it in the spice section & get it at a food-supply store or bulk store like Costco if you can!)

Then you heat and mix all of the ingredients on the stove, which was mommy's job of course. At first it looked like this and I was starting to second-guess the recipe...

But after some cooking and mixing, it gradually started to look like this...

While we let it cool we picked out all of the colors we would dye it! We just used food coloring left over from previous birthday cake-baking.

We did pink, green, and blue, then we learned that red and yellow make orange playdough, and red and blue make purple!

We made a LOAD of playdough!!!!! Sam carried it to the table so we could play!

Cookie cutters are great fun with playdough too!

The best thing about homemade playdough? You can eat it! Not that you'd want to, but I don't have to worry if Natalie sticks a bite or two in her mouth - it's all completely safe and edible!

Wow, I get to play too!

Making handprints...

And lastly, we bagged it all up! Hopefully it will last!
HOMEMADE PLAYDOUGH
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 cups water
4 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup cream of tartar

Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Allow to cool slightly before storing in an air tight container or zip lock bag.

Option: Add one package of unsweetened powdered Kool-Aid to your playdough to give it a great smell. (I didn't do this but I bet it would work great!)

Have fun! :)
